Chris' Hosta
![]() |
Christina Brinkmann from Gütersloh, Germany, is a well-known hosta breeder who has been passionately dedicated to breeding since 2013. She specializes primarily in tetraploid hostas, which are more resistant to frost and sun, have thicker leaves, and display more intense colors. In addition to these, she also loves streaked hostas and varieties with long leaves. In her garden, she cultivates over 2,900 hosta varieties and thousands of seedlings. Many of her cultivars carry the prefix “Chris’s”, while tetraploid varieties are additionally marked with the name “German.” More than 30 of her cultivars are already being propagated in laboratories, and some are available on the market — including Chris’ China Star, Chris’ Darkest Purple, and Chris’ Tropical Sundown. She shares her experiences and photos in the Facebook group “Chris’ Sämlinge, Streaker und Sorten,” where she regularly presents new developments from her breeding work. Her hostas are steadily gaining popularity among collectors throughout Europe. Read more about Christina Brinkmann and her hostas in our blog. |
