Dormant cultivars

They are so called cultivars, which completely lose their leaves before or shortly after the first frost. Overwinter in leaf buds just below the soil surface. They survive even stronger frost. From autumn until spring they stop to grow.

The figure below shows evergreen cultivar Destined To See (in the right) in November. It is still green, while dormant cultivar Tamarine (in the left) has already sheded leaves. 

      

Evergreen cultivars

They are so called cultivars, which grow all over year. In warmer areas they have green leaves throughout the year, they assimilate and grow. In cold areas their leaves are lost after frost and in spring they sprout from the leaf buds hidden under the soil surface. 

 

      

Semi-evergreen cultivars

Their properties are between dormant and evergreen cultivars.
