Do not forget to feed the birds in this hard winter time. Some do not migrate to warmer places but remain in our country throughout the winter time. There is a lack of food sources during winter, and it is very appropriate to offer them some “fat balls” or some seeds in the garden on the garden feeder. You can buy bird food in the local store or make it yourself. Many of those birds are very beneficial in the garden, since during the spring they feed on the larvae and adults of pests and so protect your garden plants.

Although it is winter time and there aren’t many chances to stay in the garden covered by snow, there is still a lot to do inside. You can start to plant different varieties of peppers on the windowsill. Remember that there is little light this time of the year, so put the cups with seedlings as close to the window as possible. Choose from the garden pepper varieties, green or red (Granova, Citrina, PCR) and also sweet or chilly. Some very spicy varieties have become popular recently for indoor planting (red or yellow Habanero, Komodo Dragon, Trinidad Scorpio).

It is time to buy seeds. You can plant tomatoes as early as January on a windowsill. Place in a warm place close to the window and keep the soil moist. You can choose between bush, small (balcony) or large salad varieties (Orcado, Tornado, Balconi Red, Idyll, Herodes, Brandywine).

Also, it is time to sow all annuals and celery now in January.
