News from our perennials beds…

Plant breeding is not our priority. It is for us more or less fun, we are doing only in a small range. Therefore, also our ambitions are not large. In our breeding program, we mainly benefit from the fact that we have almost 1000 hosta cultivars in our collection, so there is a lot to choose from; many potential “fathers” or “mothers”.

Despite the fact that breeding is not our main activity, we have already registered several of our own hosta cultivars. Their names always start with the word Buffalo, which is the English translation of our surname - Zúbrik. So maybe some of you already have Buffalo Bill, Buffalo Amber Waves or Hemerocallis Buffalo Valley in your garden... We are happy that evaluated, new beauties doing well as for example Hosta Buffalo Spring Beauty or the yellow Hosta Buffalo Designer Genes (H. Designer Genes x H. Beet Salad). Hosta Buffalo Grassland is also very promising... New streaked hosta Buffalo Mouse also grew nice this year... We like yellow color and narrow leaf shape, and if the stem stalks are red, it is even better. That is also a target of our breeding program. Of course, there are also some nice new cultivars among the daylilies. In the crosses are dominated reblooming diploid cultivars. We show you soon more pictures…

Seedlings, the future Buffalo? It takes 3-4 years they show their potential.

We registered hosta Buffalo Bill in 2015.

Hosta Buffalo Black Soup, which we registered in 2016, is also growing pretty well. In autumn, it has a nicer color.

We are also pleased to grow a new "Mouse" hosta in 2019 - Hosta Buffalo Mouse.

The Buffalo Designer Genes (H. Designer Genes x H. Beet Salad) has yellow leaves and distinctive, red stalks. It blooms on dark burgundy stems and is very fertile both ways.

Streaked hosta, that does not have a working name yet.

Hosta Buffalo Spring Beauty is also not registered yet.

This hosta does not have a working name.

Bright yellow and fast growing Hosta Buffalo Tiara.

Between daylilies, there are also some new beauties, still not registered and not named…

Creamy, fragrant future Buffalo? Diploid with beautiful flowers.

In 2019, we enjoyed this seedling with its bright flowers. Maybe it will be registered soon ...

The huge flowers of these seedlings shine gardenwide.
